The Chatter House

New Delhi 2015-2016 1700sq.ft.

A Gastro pub chain ideated about the charm of vintage English Pubs and Bars brings another of their celebrated outlets, an understated extension of its Nehru Place’s Sibling.

Amidst a potpourri of high end cafes and designer label boutiques in the genteel bylanes of Khan Market, comes this ‘statement in restraint’. Entered through an oversized matt finished steel door into a dusky stairway, the eyelids merily enjoys this soothing change of sensual retreat. Treading up takes one to the bar level where two brick lined barrel vaults resting on heavily riveted steel girders in a balanced symmetry conjures up multiple images of an old reclaimed British/Irish Underground station or a tunnel. Culminating into two oversized circular  glass windows, the space gives an impression of tunnel kindled in the dark through a series of demurely designed lights. While traversing from lower to upper floor, one literally feels a yank from this impromptu daydreaming. The relatively dusky interiors of the lower floor gets a natural blanching treatment in the upper floor through the light that pours in from the  two oversized square windows continuing over as glazed skylight.
