Tukojirao Indoor Stadium

The Tukojirao Indoor Stadium in Devas stands as a testament to our commitment to grassroots sports development. Commissioned by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Madhya Pradesh, this facility was strategically designed to nurture local sports talent, catering not only to Devas but also reaching out to adjoining cities like Indore. The stadium, encompassing a gymnasium and a multipurpose court accommodating sports such as volleyball, badminton, and table tennis, also serves as a venue for diverse public events, including yoga and aerobics.

With a seating capacity of 1500, the stadium has become a focal point for sports enthusiasts, hosting numerous National and International level tournaments. What sets Tukojirao Indoor Stadium apart is its emphasis on sustainability, both financially and environmentally. Unconventionally, the facility is non-air conditioned, relying on diffused natural light to illuminate its interior—a design choice that significantly enhances its operational sustainability.

The challenge lay in achieving optimal lighting without violating sports norms that prohibit direct sunlight during games. Our lateral thinking led to a groundbreaking design—aligning the stadium east-west to maximize diffused light. The northern and southern sides were strategically crafted as light-receiving edges, minimizing glare from the south. Through innovative architectural elements such as high-tiered seating and a deeply recessed rear corridor, we successfully mitigated the southern glare, reflecting it back to the ceiling. This ingenuity not only eliminated the need for high lux level artificial lighting but also reduced the building footprint by a notable 20 percent.
